China Expands Visa-Free Access, Facilitating Global Engagement and Economic Openness

Effective immediately, China has extended its unilateral visa-free entry policy for travelers from 45 countries until December 31, 2026. This move reflects China’s continued efforts to encourage international travel, trade, and cultural exchange by simplifying entry procedures for short-term visitors.

Who Can Benefit

Citizens of the eligible countries holding ordinary passports may travel to China without a visa for visits lasting up to 30 days for purposes including:

  • Business meetings or exchanges
  • Tourism and leisure travel
  • Visiting family or friends
  • Participating in cultural or social events
  • Short-term transit (for stays under 30 days)

Note that travelers who do not meet the criteria for visa-free entry must continue to apply for an appropriate visa prior to travel.

Entry Conditions

  • The visa-free stay is limited to 30 days per visit.
  • Travelers must enter and exit through designated ports of entry open to international visitors.
  • Activities beyond the scope of tourism, business, or cultural exchange – such as employment, study, or long-term residence – still require a visa or residence permit.

Countries Eligible for Visa-Free Entry

Americas: Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay

Asia-Pacific: Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan

Europe: France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden (from Nov 10, 2025), Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Slovenia, Slovakia, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Malta, Estonia, Latvia

What This Means for Travelers and Businesses

The extension of China’s visa-free initiative underscores the country’s commitment to global engagement and economic openness. For companies and individuals planning business trips or cultural exchanges in China, the extended timeframe through 2026 provides greater flexibility and planning certainty.

This development is also expected to support the resumption of international tourism and corporate mobility following years of pandemic-related restrictions.
